A day along the south bank and across the Thames, starting with market food and ending at a reconstructed Elizabethan theatre. About 4.2 km of walking, mostly flat and riverside. Suits anyone who wants landmarks broken up by a long lunch.

    Start here when the market opens, while the stalls are still setting out and the lanes are walkable.

  2. 5 min walk — Head southeast on Bedale St toward Borough High St/A3

    The Shard

    The Shard rises directly above the market, so the viewing galleries are a few minutes' walk and give you the layout of the day ahead.

  3. 16 min walk — Head southwest toward St Thomas St/A200

    Tower Bridge

    From the tower base, head downriver along the Thames path to reach the bridge and its walkways from the south side.

  4. 14 min walk — Head southwest on Tower Bridge Rd/A100

    Trivet

    Opens 12:00

    Back towards London Bridge for a long lunch once the kitchen is open, timed after the morning's walking.

  5. 20 min walk — Head east on Snowsfields toward Melior Pl

    Tower of London

    Cross the river to the fortress in the afternoon, with the Crown Jewels and Yeoman Warder rounds under way.

  6. 27 min walk — Head east

    Shakespeare's Globe

    Return to the south bank and walk west to end at the Globe, which suits late afternoon for a tour or an evening performance.
