Harajuku down to Shibuya

A day in Tokyo — 6 stops, about 4.54 km on foot, 64 minutes walking.

A day that starts in shrine woodland, passes through Harajuku's teenage shopping crush, and ends at Shibuya's crossing after dark. About 3.2 km of walking, almost all flat and on pavement, with a long green stretch in the middle. Suits anyone who wants Tokyo's quiet and loud sides in one line.

The route, in order

  1. Meiji Jingu

Start here while the forest paths are still quiet — the gravel approach takes a while, and that slow build is the point.

  2. 19 min walk — Head east Restricted usage road

    Takeshita Street

Leaving the shrine grounds drops you straight into Harajuku's opposite: a narrow lane of crepe stalls and fashion shops, best before midday crowds thicken.

  3. 16 min walk — Head southwest toward ブラームスの小径 Pass by TRIO原宿 (on the right in 30m)

    Yoyogi Park

Back across into the park to reset after Takeshita Street's density; open lawns, and busiest on weekends.

  4. 20 min walk — Head east

    Brasserie Viron Shibuya

    Opens 09:00

Walk south out of the park into Shibuya for bread and bistro food — a proper sit-down break between the green and the noise.

  5. 8 min walk — Head southeast on オーチャードロード toward 松涛文化村ストリート

    Shibuya Crossing

A short walk from the brasserie to the scramble crossing, worth timing for late afternoon or evening when the screens dominate.

  6. 1 min walk — Head southeast

    Hachiko Statue

The statue sits just beside the crossing at the station, an easy last stop before you catch a train out.
