San Diego

Your getaway to San Diego

Start with the San Diego Zoo one morning, the icon everyone mentions, genuinely worth a half day. Then balance it with a wander through North Park's side streets: coffee shops, murals, and boutiques with no agenda. Lunch in Little Italy, pasta or pizza on a patio, followed by a stroll down to the harbor. La Jolla Cove in the late afternoon for seals, snorkelers, and a coastline walk that needs no planning. Tacos for dinner somewhere locals actually go; ask your server, they will have opinions. One evening at Sunset Cliffs, sitting on the rocks as the light fades, costs nothing and stays with you. Balboa Park for an hour or two: pick one museum or just the gardens, both count. The Coronado ferry for a cheap, lovely bay crossing and a beach walk under the Hotel del's turrets. Leave a morning unscheduled; San Diego's weather makes any plan work. You will leave with a fair, full picture of the city and a reason to return.
